Social OPEX is a leadership development programme, co-developed by Allianz and Volans, that seeks to transfer business skills to high-impact social enterprises, helping them to overcome process and operational challenges, and subsequently enable them to achieve even greater impact.
The programme has helped employees at Allianz to gain first-hand exposure to new business and organisational perspectives from social enterprises that is complementary to their work at Allianz. At the same time, the programme has also allowed them to develop leadership and communication skills while contributing to social and environmental causes in a focused and meaningful way.
Since the first pilot in 2009, about 25 projects have been completed with social enterprises operating around the world, including Europe and Asia. The programme is also currently being extended to North America, and a total of 10 to 15 projects are to be completed by the end of 2011. Award-winning social enterprises we have worked with this year include Riders for Health (UK), Fair Finance (UK), Groupe La Varappe (France), Ecodair (France) and streetfootballworld (Germany).
“In conclusion, this experience only presents us with advantages, and further to this, it has helped us to forge links with like-minded people in the commercial business sector who themselves have also changed their approach to the social sector. We think that we have been in a win-win exchange.” – Laurent Laik, founder and Director-General of La Varappe (France)
“Social OPEX was a unique opportunity to help social organisations in a different way, to give them tools that can help them increase their social impact. It also helped improve my leadership skills by making me understand that effective problem solving must always relate to the greater vision, strategy and values of the company/organisation. ” - Philippa Michali, Social OPEX participant from Allianz (Greece)
“Riders wouldn’t have entered into a partnership with an organisation like Allianz without Volans to be the interpreter, to manage expectations and build trust between both organisations. All this helps to make sure that the partnership comes together beautifully. The brokerage that Volans provides, is therefore really vital.” – Andrea Coleman, founder and CEO of Riders for Health (UK)
Volans is pleased to have assisted Allianz in extensively rolling out the Social OPEX programme since the pilot in 2009.
