A group of 9 delegates from government, business and the social enterprise sector in Japan visited the UK earlier in March this year to participate in a 5-day Social Innovation Study Tour, commissioned by British Council (Japan) and organised by Volans.
The tour took place despite the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit the north-eastern coast of Japan just days before. Nonetheless, participants of the tour remained optimistic and took back with them fresh insights and new ideas to further develop Japan’s social enterprise ecosystem. The participants also displayed an inspiring belief of the increasingly important role of social entrepreneurs in addressing the new challenges faced in Japan, as well as a commitment towards supporting social entrepreneurs to do so.
