Next week, Socap –the Social Capital Markets Conference 2010 in San Francisco– is organizing a panel on the Biosphere Economy with leading foundations and social investors, to explore the links between investing in natural capital and human security in international development.

Behind this effort is David Hodgson, who is with The IdeaHive and the International Futures Forum, and who is curating the ‘Innovation in International Development’ track for Socap.

In a recent interview, David shares his views on:

  • How to inject environmentalism into the social enterprise conversation.
  • How natural disasters are bringing the environmental movement to the forefront of the international development agenda.
  • Why the biosphere economy is the next big thing in social enterprise

The session will be chaired by Jennifer Biringer of SustainAbility, and an ambassador of The Biosphere Economy, and will bring together David Rothschild of the Skoll Foundation; Lisa Monzon of the Packard Foundation’s Fisheries Program; Jason Scott of EKO Asset Management; and Johanna Mctaggart of the Biosphere Network.

Reporting on the discussions by Jennifer to follow shortly.
