Employee Engagement doesn’t need to break the bank

McKinsey recently came out with a study which shows that employee engagement doesn’t necessarily need to be a big ticket item at budget time – social capital can be just as effective of financial capital as a motivator.
The three highest scoring non-financial incentives the report highlihghts include: 1. praise from immediate managers 2. leadership attention and 3. a chance to lead projects or task forces.
The third, and I think most interesting, of this list is something we are seeing more and more of with some of our current clients. Allianz, for instance, is providing employees participating in their Social OPEX program a way to lead projects that benefit their social entrepreneurship partners – showing that this is a clear win-win scenario. Employees are more motivated and social enterprises gain valuable skills and insight to help them grow their business.
