Snapshot: Famous for his work on the ‘Lost Gardens of Heligan’ and the Eden Project, both in Cornwall, England. Eden is an £135m project and the most visited environmental education centre in Europe. Smit is the winner of the RSA Albert Medal and author of Lost Gardens of Heligan, named “Illustrated book of the Year” in 1998 as well as author of number 1 bestseller, Eden: Secrets Locked in Silence and co-author of The Heligan Vegetable Bible. He sits on the Prime Minister’s Council for Social Action. In 2002, Smit was awarded the CBE in the 2002 New Years Honours List. He has recently become a Social Enterprise Ambassador.
