Alejandro is Director of the Innovation Lab at Volans, which works with social innovators, businesses, investors and policy-makers, to develop and scale solutions to social, environmental and governance challenges.
He is also a senior advisor to the Tällberg Foundation in Sweden, with whom he has led innovation projects in Tanzania, India and the Ecuadorean Amazon.
Alejandro is an experienced strategy advisor for development investors, having worked for the World Bank Group, the Shell Foundation, and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC); and has led activities on collaborative innovation in Russia, Indonesia, Brazil, the Philippines and South Africa with the support of institutions such as the Ford Foundation and Club of Madrid.
From 2004-2008, Alejandro was a Senior Advisor at AccountAbility in London where he worked on business and sustainability issues, and helped build the Collaborative Governance program. During this time, he was a founding partner of Keystone, the group that works with social investors on increasing their impact.
In 2004 he obtained an MSc in Political Sociology from the London School of Economics (LSE), where he was awarded the Hobhouse Memorial Prize for achieving the highest performance that year. During his studies, he worked with Shell International’s Future Scenarios team in London. He holds a BA in International Relations with a major on political analysis from Universidad Torcuato Di Tella in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he was awarded the gold medal for highest performance and his research on the political economy of the collapse of Argentine fisheries in 1999.
Before moving to London in 2003, Alejandro worked in Latin America as an investment manager for the AVINA Foundation. From 2000-2003 he was responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of social investments based out of Buenos Aires, including the development of global projects such as Advertisers Without Borders and the Social Enterprise Knowledge Network (SEKN) based at Harvard Business School.
He has authored and co-authored publications and featured media articles on the governance innovations and the new types of collaboration needed to scale solutions to economic, social, environmental challenges, including, recently, as guest editor for the Alliance Magazine of the social investment and philanthropy community. Alejandro has been recently awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Society of the Arts in the UK for his contribution to advancing ideas and practice on social innovation.
