Allen Tan is thrilled to be a part of the Volans Singapore office after a serendipitous encounter! Basically, he is really proud of the fact that together with many others, he helped Volans launch the current version of the website, purely on a pro bono basis back in September 2008. The budding engagement has since blossomed and as the Lead Software Architect, first amongst many other hats he would like to wear, he will work with various stakeholders to build an ecosystem for the social entrepreneurship sphere.
Previously, he has worked in the financial sector for 6 years. In 2005, despite being 32 and supposedly wise enough, he decided to fulfil his teenage dream of starting and owning businesses. Now, he has a software consultancy business that specialises in using the Open Source suite of tools to create web applications for organisations. And in his spare time, he operates an adventure trekking business, bringing tired souls to experience the rejuvenating powers of Mother Nature in South East Asia.
He graduated with a B.A. in Psychology & Economics from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1997. He also has a Graduate Diploma in Systems Analysis from the Institute of Systems Science, NUS in 1998. More recently, he attended a Social Entrepreneurship Programme at INSEAD, Singapore campus in December 2008.
